Can you "upload" a Google Doc?

Actually you can't. But let's back up for a minute. There may be various situations where a teacher is filling out a form or registration of some kind for a third party organization. Maybe you are applying for a grant or submitting documentation to the department of education. You come to a section that says "Upload your document here." You can click the button and browse through your files but it won't let you upload your Google Doc.

The fact is that you can never "upload" a Google doc. It sounds weird at first, but if you think about it it makes sense. A Google Document is always in the cloud; essentially its already and permanently uploaded. So you can't upload it again. You can only ever share a link to a Google Doc.

The solution in this case is to first download a copy of the Google Document as a PDF and then upload that PDF.

Go to File > Download as > PDF.
